How is artificial grass installed?
We get asked often how we lay artificial grass for your garden. A lot of preparation goes into getting the area ready before artificial grass can be installed.
We’ve done a quick rundown of how to install artificial grass so you can have a better idea of the process!
Prepare the ground
We will dig out your existing lawn to a depth of approximately 3”/75mm using a turf cutter or spade and will remove any large stones, bricks, or other obstructions. If there is a drainage problem, we will lay down a type 1 stone to level the ground off.
Apply a weed membrane
Once the ground is level and compacted, we will install a non-woven geotextile weed barrier to prevent the growth of weeds from below whilst still allowing water drainage. Any excess membrane from the edges will be trimmed off, and any areas that need joining will be overlapped and attached together.
Secure the edges
To ensure a neat and even finish, a lot of attention is put around the perimeter of the lawn for a solid, secure, permanent edge. We can also use a brick/slab edging if there is not a solid one to use already in place.
Infill
To get an even surface we will Infill the area with hardcore/type 1, level off the ground and vibrate down.
Sand layer
Blind off the area with a thin layer of sharp sand. This layer will be vibrated down and levelled off.
Lay the grass
After the foundations have been made we will lay your chosen grass in place, being careful not to move or disturb the foundations and pile brush the grass. The artificial grass is cut in, ensuring a neat edging all round. All joints and edges are thoroughly checked over and glued to ensure a neat and secure fit.
Final checks
Final checks are made to the lawn, ensuring all waste and debris is removed leaving your garden looking brand new and ready for you to enjoy!
